Sheep gastric mucins as a source of blood-group-I and -i antigens.

چکیده
Gastric-mucosal glycoproteins of sheep have been shown to express the blood-group-I and -i antigens. The highest blood-group-I activities were found in glycoproteins lacking in blood-group-A and -H activities. In antigenically very active glycoprotein preparations, approx. 25% of the macromolecules expressed various blood-group-I and -i antigens, and these could be enriched by affinity chromatography with an anti-(blood group I) immunoadsorbent column. Additional blood-group-I and -i activities could be revealed by one cycle of Smith degradation of blood-group-A-active sheep gastric glycoproteins. Thus sheep gastric mucins are an abundant source of oligosaccharides with blood-group-I- and -i-active sequences.

The Tall Tale of the Helicobacter pylori Blood Group Antigen Binding Proteins
The features of Helicobacter pylori adhesins, their interactions with their host counterparts, regulated and selective gene expressions are amongst the many clever strategies this microorganism undertakes to survive the otherwise sterile gastric milieu. The ingenious crafting of these interactions and the respective host reactions govern, in part, an array of consequences ranging from asympto...
متن کاملSUSCEPTIBILITY OF HUMAN WM MELANOMA CELL LINES TO NK AND LAK CYTOTOXICITY AND THEIR RELEVANCE TO THE LEVEL OF MHC CLASS I AND ICAM-l ANTIGEN EXPRESSION
The effect of natural killer (NK) cells and lymphokine activated killer ( LAK) cells was studied on a group of human melanoma cell lines. Peripheral blood from healthy volunteers was utilized as a fresh source of natural killer cells and rhI L-2 for producing LAK cells. The cytotoxicity of effector cells was quantified using a 4 hour SI determining the density of antigen expression on tumor...
متن کاملDegradation of blood group antigens in human colon ecosystems. I. In vitro production of ABH blood group-degrading enzymes by enteric bacteria.
Human feces contain enzymes produced by enteric bacteria that degrade the A, B, and H blood group antigens of gut mucin glycoproteins. We have studied their production in fecal cultures to determine if such cultures can be a source for enzyme purification and to explore how blood group antigen-degrading enzymes are adapted in individual human colon ecosystems. They were present in fecal culture...

Forty two small ruminants, 26 (61.90%) sheep and 16 (38.10%) goats were treated for rumen acidosis. 19 (45.24%), 12 (28.57%), 6 (14.29%) and 5 (11.90%) animals had eaten apple, cooked rice (wazwan left over) turnip and chapatti respectively and manifested clinical form of ruminal acidosis with, 2.86%; (n=18) as mild (Rumen fluid pH=6.32 ±0.09316), 38.09%;(n=16)moderate (Rumen fluid pH=5.71 ±0.0...
متن کاملAssociation of IGF-I Gene Polymorphisms with Carcass Traits in Iranian Mehraban Sheep Using SSCP Analysis
Molecular genetics selection on individual genes is a promising method to genetically improve economically important traits in livestock. The insulin like growth factor-I (IGF-I) gene may play important roles in growth of multiple tissues, including muscle cells, cartilage and bone. The objectives of the present study were the estimate the haplotype frequencies of the IGF-I gene polymorphisms i...
